The Perfect Mother's Day

Today I woke up to the smell of warm waffles cooking. My 1.5 year old (with the supervision of his Daddy) cooked me breakfast! Church, working on our basement project, taking a nap, a trip to the park, hamburgers on the grill in 75 degree weather... it was the perfect day.... for a very imperfect mother.

It's funny to think of myself as a mother.
When mother's day arrives each year, I immediately think of my mother (the woman who, as a teenager, I swore I would never be like), and I wonder if I will ever be able to remotely live up to the incredible standard of motherhood that she has set for me. I consider my mother nearly perfect... always patient, so loving and compassionate, so genuinely sweet natured, again... so patient.... .and yet at the same time, so firm and steadfast in teaching and impressing upon us the importance of moral values and high standards of personal conduct. She's a great friend and confidant, yet a true parent at the same time.

I just hope one day I can be half the mother she is.
